Support for Agent-to-Agent (A2A) and MCP Protocol Proxying via Kong AI Gateway

Hi team,

I’m exploring the setup of an Agent-to-Agent (A2A) Protocol proxy using the Kong AI Gateway to enable communication and collaboration between AI agents. I’ve tried integrating the open A2A from https://a2aregistry.org/
, but I wasn’t able to get it working error getting kong gateway could not understand the backend response.
I also attempted an MCP (Model Context Protocol) gateway configuration where Kong proxies requests to the public GitHub MCP server endpoint. The connection is established, and Kong successfully forwards the input, but it seems unable to interpret or handle the response from the MCP server correctly.
My question is:
Does the open-source Kong Gateway currently support A2A and MCP-style protocol proxying, or is there any plan to enable this functionality in future releases? If we can do could provide any example blog or any issues resolved. looking for your response.

I think that we have mcp support in kong gateway enterprise 3.12, but I did not know the plan about the OSS version.
